Safety Data Sheets
The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is undoubtedly the most important document in the supply chain. It allows for the transfer of information about the risks arising from the use of a chemical product, while also defining risk management measures. Properly prepared, it will also be a valuable source of information about whether the product meets the requirements of regulations in a given market. The primary function of the Safety Data Sheet is to enable the user to take actions aimed at increasing safety and protection of the environment and human health. Due to their importance, Safety Data Sheets are an integral element of communication in all supply chains and their provision is not only required under the provisions of the REACH Regulation (1907/2006/EC), but also expected by professional recipients of chemical products. It is currently difficult to imagine placing a chemical product on the market without the accompanying SDS. In the European Union, Safety Data Sheets are developed based on the provisions of Article 31 of the REACH Regulation (1907/2006/EC) and Annex II to this Regulation, the content of which is defined by Regulation 2020/878/EU. In other regions of the world, the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is also a widely used document, and its creation is regulated by, among others, regulations such as OSHA HazCom 2012 (United States) or WHMIS 2015 (Canada).

Is having a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) mandatory?
Pursuant to Article 31 of the REACH Regulation, a Safety Data Sheet is required for each chemical product, equally substances and mixtures, that is classified as hazardous in accordance with the provisions of the CLP Regulation (1272/2008/EC). This obligation will also apply to products that have not been classified in accordance with the CLP Regulation, but contain substances that pose a hazard or those for which OEL values have been determined. This document must be provided free of charge, no later than on the day of the first delivery of the product. The Safety Data Sheet should be prepared by an appropriately skilled and trained person and meet the requirements of Annex II to the REACH Regulation (2020/878//EU). When introducing products into foreign markets, it is also required to translate the document into the appropriate language and, if we leave the borders of the European Union, to adapt the document to the regulations in force in a given country or region.

When should the Safety Data Sheet be provided?
The provisions of the REACH regulation indicate that SDS should be delivered to the recipient of the product no later than on the day of the first delivery of the goods. In practice, recipients in the supply chain often ask about the document as early as at the quotation stage. A well-prepared Safety Data Sheet often becomes an indispensable element, e.g. when entering a tender. It should be remembered that the Safety Data Sheet should be prepared in the official language of the country where the product is placed on the market, which means that, for example, an English-language document from the manufacturer may not meet the customer's requirements. How long does it take to prepare a Safety Data Sheet?
The standard time for preparing a Safety Data Sheet by our experts is 3-5 business days, but it may change if additional questions arise during the analysis of the documentation. For larger orders, the time needed to develop Safety Data Sheets is determined individually based on the customer's needs, as well as the number and type of SDS being developed. There is no procedure for registering Safety Data Sheets on the European Union market, so the document we prepare for the EU market is immediately ready for use and distribution.

The price of a Safety Data Sheet compilation will always depend on several factors, including the type and number of Safety Data Sheets, the languages in which they are to be prepared, the complexity of the products and the deadline by which the Safety Data Sheets are needed. What is included in the SDS price?
The Safety Data Sheet compilation cost covers all of the process phases: collecting data for the development of an SDS, analysis of the received data, product classification in accordance with the CLP Regulation (or other applicable), preparation of a preliminary version of the Safety Data Sheet based on the received data and product classification, submission of the document for customer assessment and finalization of the Safety Data Sheet. The price does not include laboratory tests if they are needed to prepare the Safety Data Sheet (for example, flash point tests or kinematic viscosity measurement of a chemical product).

How long is the Safety Data Sheet valid for?
Once prepared, the Safety Data Sheet does not have an "expiration date", it can remain in circulation for as long as all the data contained therein remain valid and comply with applicable regulations. The Safety Data Sheet may require updating for various reasons, the most important and most common of which are:
- change in the composition of the chemical product, which will affect the information contained in the Safety Data Sheet
- change of the classification of one or more substances contained in a chemical product, which will change the content of the Safety Data Sheet, but may also affect the CLP classification of the entire product
- change of the applicable regulations regarding the requirements for Safety Data Sheets, or update of the legislation related to substances contained in the product
- administrative changes, such as change of the name of the company or the trade name of the product
